What are Traffic Incidents?
Traffic Incidents are made up of currently three different types of information, MDIS, MOLA and SfS events.

The Midlands Driver Information System (MDIS) is a combination of resources and Police Control Offices throughout the Midlands area designed to respond to traffic problems on motorways and those trunk roads that are likely to carry diverted traffic most of the day. The system allows police forces to report incidents and give information on their location, severity and anticipated duration via computer terminals. The network management centre computers analyse the information and generate proposals to divert the traffic away from the source of delay.

MOLA information covers Kent, this information is entered in by the Police Control Offices. The information is similar to the MDIS information in the Midlands area.

Signal and sign setting data from systems covering motorways across the whole of England are now analysed, and patterns of matrix and vms sign settings result in the automatic detection and publication of traffic events and situations. This new event source is named Situations from Signals (SfS).
